SAVE TONIGHT - KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY
2022
For my Dynamic Typography class, one of the assignments was to choose any piece of audio and translate it into a typography-driven animation. This concept is based around the lyrics to the song “Save Tonight” by Eagle-Eye Cherry. The track is about a guy not wanting to leave his partner when the morning comes and spending as much time as possible with her. In the animation, the type is animated as a framing device for the visuals, based on the scenario depicted by the lyrics. This sequence aims for a lighthearted, playful tone to match the upbeat sound of the music, while the graphics include visual gags to add a sense of humor.
The lyrics are primarily bold with occasional use of condensed type depending on the visuals being represented. Sans serif font was chosen to keep with the fun tone of the music and visuals. Graphics based on more organic forms are minimal and simplified in design. The coloring is limited through its use of black and white, as well as CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key black). This sequence was produced digitally in 2D through After Effects, while incorporating a hand-drawn aesthetic to keep it loose and informal for the vibe of the song.
