This assignment for my class in Advanced Motion Media Design Techniques was focused on creating a design package for a special event of our choice, whether it be an awards show, conference, or music festival. The goal was to create three animations, one to introduce the event, one to introduce a guest/speaker, and another to be used for outdoor advertising. My project is based on Lollapalooza, which started out as a touring alternative music festival before finding home in the city of Chicago and expanding into other genres such as pop and indie rock.

The introductory animation highlights landmarks of the city (Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, etc.) and show various forms of transport traveling across the frame, all building up to Grant Park where the Lollapalooza festival is held. The piece is accompanied by a fun alternative rock tune, while the color palette is bright and vibrant, matching the tone of the festival being held during the summer. The guest/speaker animation would follow the same approach with a shorter amount of time and the outdoor advertisement would continuously loop on the same frame.

The festival is considered a multimedia experience as they are accompanied by sideshows, information tables, and art displays. Chicago, itself, has been an innovator in all forms such as art, music, theatre, architecture, and engineering. To coincide the idea of the festival and city being places where all forms of art and innovation come together, the approach was to create a mixed-media aesthetic through the use of photos and painted textures.
